- Sydney Storm Place: Sydney Harbour Where: Sydney They had been warning about the potential for severe storms for a couple of days. Throughout the day, the humidity was building, along with the heat. You could feel the storm brewing. It was amazing it rolling in from the north-west of Sydney, big and dark on the horizon, and with lightning flashing across the sky. The skies opened up and we rode out the worst of it while sheltering in the car.
- Canberra and Snowy Mountains Place: Canberra, Snowy Mountains Where: ACT, New South Wales We rolled into Canberra late on Friday afternoon and after a quick cocktail, ventured over to ‘Nightfest’ which is essentially Floriade under lights. I’m not really one for things like flower displays but the nice lights always get me – but it ain’t quite Vivid. Next day, we ventured down the Monaro to the Snowy Mountains, heading to Perisher, Crackenback and Jindabyne for the long weekend.
- Sydney Sunset Place: Dudley Page Reserve Where: Sydney Dudley Page Reserve is a park perched high on the hilltop in Sydney’s eastern suburbs overlooking Sydney Harbour. It presents an iconic Sydney scene, looking straight down the harbour at the Opera House, Bridge and city skyline. The perfect place to take in a colourful sunset like this.
- Mudgee Place: Mudgee Where: New South Wales Camping? In winter? You’ve got to be kidding me. Unless your tent comes with a bed, shower, bath, flushing toilet, wood fire, fridge… This is how you do camping – or to be more precise, glamping. We stayed at Sierra Escapes, about a 20 minute drive out of Mudgee. It’s in the middle of nowhere and due to the current drought, it’s a barren moonscape vista. But being so far away from everything means the stars shone bright. In fact, bright enough to see the Milky Way with the naked eye. We savoured […]
- Maldives Place: Maldives Where: Indian Ocean The Maldives is easily one of the most amazing and picturesque places on the face of the earth. The photos probably won’t do it justice. The crystal clear azure water, the white sands… this place is incredible. We stayed at two island resorts. The first was Finolou, a funky little beach place where we had an over-water bungalow. After a hot and sweaty seaplane ride in, we were straight into the water. After a few nights there, we moved on to our next island – Amila Fushi. This place is to die for. The […]
- Cronulla Rockpools Place: Cronulla Where: Sydney Monday 2 April 2018 – Easter Monday. The best part of this time of year, just after the end of daylight saving, is that you can have a bit of a sleep-in and still see the sunrise. It was a race against the clock to get there in time, mind you, but well worth it. The sky lit up all pastel pink and bright orange. I’m still getting used to my new camera but happy with the early results.
- Canberra Balloon Spectacular Place: Canberra Where: ACT Call me crazy. Who does a road trip to Canberra and back – all before midday? We hit the road at the ridiculous time of 3am, heading south to the national capital before sunrise for the annual Balloon Spectacular.
- Christmas In Sydney Place: Pitt Street Where: Sydney The most wonderful time of the year… even with the light rail construction tearing up the street.
