Dubai, home of big things

In Australia, we have lots of big things. Bananas, pineapples, prawns, sheep, just to name a few.

However they pale in comparison to the big things in Dubai. They really seem to have a need to have the biggest and best in the world.

Even at the airport they have the biggest fleet of the biggest passenger plane in the world. There are rows and rows of A380s on the apron.

There is the biggest shopping centre in the world, the Dubai Mall. It’s complete with the world’s largest aquarium and an ice skating rink. Not sure why they have so many umbrellas when it rains so little though.

At another mall, they have built the world’s largest indoor ski run. I had seen it on TV before but never thought it would be so big – it’s a massive concrete structure baking in 46 degree heat from the outside, while inside it’s -3 degrees.

Then of course you have the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. We only went to the 124th floor, 456 metres up. The building’s highest point is 828 metres.

As I have said before, I don’t know why they would build these buildings so high in a desert when they just put you closer to the sun.

Even outside, every half hour, they have a Bellagio style water show. Only it is bigger. Wouldn’t you know, it is actually the biggest in the world.

We really need to build a bigger banana.
